Today marks World Wetlands Day, which is a good opportunity to call for change and raise public awareness about the importance of wetlands for the future of humanity.

World Wetlands Day coincides with the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on February 2, 1971 in Ramsar, Iran.

Wetlands, or "wetland" systems, are permanent or temporary water surfaces up to 6 meters deep, and constitute a very important ecosystem that provides a variety of benefits including water filtration, ensuring biodiversity, coastal protection and climate change mitigation.

The Government of Kosovo in 2014 made a decision to declare the Henc Wetland - a Special Protected Bird Area, with an area of 109 hectares. /KosovaPress/
