Parents who don't want their children on Roblox shouldn't let them use it, the gaming giant's chief executive has said.
The site, which is most popular in the UK among young players aged 8 to 12, has faced allegations of several children being exposed to explicit or harmful content through its games, in addition to numerous reported cases of harassment and attempted manipulation.
But its co-founder and CEO, Dave Baszucki, insists the company is vigilant in protecting its users and stressed that "tens of millions" of people have "great experiences" on the site.
When asked what his message is for parents who don't want their children on the platform, Mr. Baszucki said: "My first message would be, if you don't feel comfortable, don't let your kids be on Roblox."
"This sounds a bit counter-intuitive, but I will always trust parents to make their own decisions," he told the BBC in an exclusive interview. In response to the interview, Mumsnet director Justine Roberts said that parents on the forum had spoken about the difficulties they have in managing their children's use of Roblox.
"There are controls for parents, and our users would advise continued parental supervision," she told the BBC.
"But we all know that despite our best efforts, life sometimes gets in the way."
"If you have several children to take care of and things happen, you probably can't keep track of everything they're doing 24/7, even if you have all the parental controls set up."
