The coach of the Kosovo national football team, Franco Foda, spoke after the victory against Iceland in two matches, a triumph which ensured Kosovo's passage from League C to League B of the Nations League.
In an interview for the official website of the Kosovo Football Federation, he said that he was optimistic that this very important objective would be achieved.
"This was our goal. The first goal was to get promoted to League B, from League B and beyond. Today I am very, very proud of the team. After a disadvantage, we followed our game from the beginning, we were very active in all phases of the game, we dominated the game, we played extremely well in attack, we were also very good in the game without the ball and it is clear that the team has developed very well over the last weeks and months. Now we have a good group of 20-25 players, we had a lot of absences but now every player can be replaced and this characterizes our team. Now we just have to move forward and take this team spirit into June," said Foda.
He added that he now sees another commitment in the players, especially in the character to fight and overturn the result in a match, he reports. KosovaPress.
"What impressed me was that the team managed to come back into the game after the disadvantage. At first, when I came to Kosovo, this did not happen, every time we fell behind we lost the game. Now we are able to overturn the result. This shows the strength of the team, the team spirit and the energy that the team has," added Foda. The head coach of the Dardanians has emphasized that for the September matches, valid for qualification for the World Championship, the team will be even more composed and thus will be able to compete with very high-level national teams.
"It will be essential that in September we have all the players in good shape. As I said, we have had many injured players and absences, but if in September everyone is ready we will have strong competition in the team, we have a good atmosphere in the team and when you have many players available this increases the energy and harmony in the team even more. If we continue like this we have the opportunity to face teams like Switzerland, Sweden and Slovenia", said Foda.
