Citizens have begun paying homage at the coffin of former President Hashim Thaçi's father, in Skenderaj. Haxhi Thaçi died on Sunday after being hospitalized for a while at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo.

The Municipality of Skenderaj began the tributes at 09:00 on Tuesday, at the "Ilaz Kodra" Gymnasium.

Present are former President Thaçi's mother, wife, his son and other family members, KosovaPress.

The tributes will end at 12:00, when the memorial academy is expected to begin. Afterwards, at 15:00, the burial ceremony will be held at the new cemetery in Burojë, Skenderaj.

According to the KLA War Veterans Organization, the Special Court has not granted permission to Hashim Thaçi to attend his father's funeral.

Regarding this, there were numerous reactions in Kosovo, including the acting Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, who said that she would address the head of the Special Court, Ekaterina Trendafilova, about this.

Hashim Thaçi visited his father at the UCCK on Thursday, with permission from the Special Court, which is trying alleged war crimes, reports KosovaPress.

After a visit lasting about three hours under strict security measures, Thaçi returned to The Hague - the Dutch city where this court is headquartered.

Hashim Thaçi is facing a protracted trial before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers - known as the Special Court.

He has been in custody since November 2020 on charges of alleged war crimes, writes KosovaPress.

His trial began in April 2023.

Along with Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi are also being tried. The former KLA leaders have pleaded not guilty to all counts of the indictment.
