The job market in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector in America has experienced significant growth in the past two years, according to an analysis by the University of Maryland and job tracking firm LinkUp.
The analysis shows a “ChatGPT effect,” referring to the increase in job postings following the launch of the chatbot developed by OpenAI, replacing many job postings in information technology (IT).
Through the AIMaps program, which tracks the growth of AI jobs in various sectors, it turned out that AI job postings have increased by 68 percent in the US since the end of 2022, while total postings have decreased by 17 percent.
Job postings for AI positions have also increased by 124 percent from 2023 to the end of 2024, CNN writes.
However, IT job postings have fallen by 27 percent. Meanwhile, several tech companies have reduced headcount after investing heavily in AI technology. Some large companies, such as Google, have made staff reductions, considering the replacement of some jobs by AI.
According to a World Economic Forum survey, 41 percent of employers plan to reduce their workforce through the use of AI by 2030.
