The body of water previously known in the United States as the Gulf of Mexico is now listed for Google Maps users in the US as the Gulf of America.
This change comes after an executive order by US President Donald Trump to change the name of the area.
Google has previously said it has "a long-standing practice of using name changes when they are updated in official government sources," CNN writes.
"Users using Maps in the US will see 'Gulf of America,' and users in Mexico will see 'Gulf of Mexico.' Others will see both names," it said in a statement released Monday.
Google said last month it would also change the name of Mount McKinley, the nation's highest peak, to Denali, following Trump's order. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also issued a notice on Monday regarding the geographical name changes.
"We would like to inform you that the FAA is in the process of updating our data and maps to reflect a name change from the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and a name change from Denali to Mount McKinley," the agency said.
The rest of the U.S. Coast Guard, responsible for patrolling coastal waters, has also begun including the new Gulf of America name change in its public announcements.
