Richard Grenell has officially assumed the role of envoy for special missions of the United States of America.

US President Donald Trump signed the executive order on Monday evening, local time in the US. He praised Grenell for his role in the decision to put out the fire in Los Angeles.

“I sent Grenell to California with a clear mission—to turn on the water. It wasn’t easy, we had to get through a lot of environmentalists who were causing problems, but we did it. Now, California has virtually unlimited water, something they should have had years ago. I spoke with Governor Newsom, and he is very pleased with the results. It’s unfortunate that we didn’t have this water two months ago, but it’s a big step, and Grenell’s work has played a crucial role in making it happen,” Trump said.

In the previous Trump administration, Grenell was the special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.

Under his mediation, Kosovo and Serbia signed the so-called economic normalization agreement on September 4, 2020. This agreement also included recognition of Kosovo's independence by Israel.

After returning to the White House, Trump has appointed several personalities to various positions, but not a special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Grenell has been appointed as the US envoy for Special Missions, which could also include Kosovo.

And a day earlier, Grenell said that the international community is united against Kurti. His statements came after those of Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who said that Kosovo has excellent relations with the United States.
