The Greek coast guard said it has rescued 75 migrants in one of the areas in the Mediterranean Sea where a ship carrying hundreds of migrants sank last year.
According to the Coast Guard, the rescued migrants were traveling in a boat near the town of Pylos and will be taken to the port of Kalamata, the Guards said on August 6.
Greek authorities did not reveal the nationality of the rescued migrants.
In June 2023, an overcrowded migrant boat believed to have left Libya with more than 750 people aboard sank southwest of Pylos.
Authorities said 104 of them were rescued, while another 600 are considered missing.
Dozens of survivors filed a lawsuit against the Greek Coast Guard, claiming that they reacted after several hours, despite warnings sent to them by the European Union's border agency, Frontex, and the non-governmental organization, Alarm Phone./REL/
