Greece is considering curbing social media use by children under 15 with a "kids wallet", according to the family minister.

Sofia Zacharaki told SKAI TV that the measure is to protect children from the dangers of unsupervised internet and social media, while she drew attention to concerns about digital addiction and isolation caused by social media.

The wallet will allow parents to block specific websites using keywords and monitor their children's internet traffic.

Banning social media entirely is unrealistic, but increased supervision is essential as children are often drawn into virtual worlds, which expose them to major risks, including depression and disconnection from reality, Zacharaki said.

"Parents express serious concerns but are reluctant to restrict their children through technology. There is a fine line between guaranteeing security and allowing freedom. Technology can be both a threat and a tool to protect against misuse,” she added.
