The German Foreign Ministry is warning its citizens that they could end up in detention or be deported from the country due to the implementation of stricter immigration rules under US President Donald Trump.

The guidelines were updated after several German citizens were stopped from entering the United States, with some held for days before being turned away.

Germany is warning that even minor violations - such as overstaying a visa or misrepresenting travel plans - could now result in immediate deportation or a ban on future entry, reports the Guardian. Politico.

Although Trump tightened the rules mainly because of illegal immigrants, some European citizens have also felt the consequences, reports KosovaPress.

One German described being handcuffed before being deported from the US-Mexico border. Another said he spent more than a week in Boston detention.
