The temporarily suspended director of the Kosovo Agricultural Institute, Fehmi Geci, has for the second time sued the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Faton Peci, for defamation and insult.

Geci has stated for KosovaPress that since he was appointed as the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Faton Peci has constantly insulted and slandered him.

Another reason for this lawsuit, according to Geci, is a statement that Minister Peci gave in the Assembly of Kosovo in September of this year after the question asked by the deputy from the Vetëvendosje Movement, Mirlinda Tishukaj-Sadiku, regarding the project of invertarization of agricultural lands.

He said that even in October of last year, he personally filed a lawsuit with the same accusations against the minister, Peci.

The temporarily suspended director of the Agricultural Institute, Fehmi Geci, says that his lawsuit is based on evidence and testimonies that include all the slanders that the Minister of Agriculture, Faton Peci, addressed to him.

Regarding the accusations that Minister Peci has made against Geci, the latter said that they are all fabricated and tendentious.

Furthermore, Fehmi Geci's lawyer, Hajzer Salihu, told KosovaPress that despite the fact that they asked the Minister of Agriculture to withdraw from the charges, they did not receive any response, so they continued with the lawsuit.

Salihu said that the accusations that Minister Peci addressed to his client do not stand.

Geci's defense attorney said that the compensation requested from this lawsuit is worth 45 euros, and aims to sensitize politicians to be careful in their public statements.

Based on the plaintiff Geci's lawsuit, the Minister of Agriculture, Faton Peci, through his statements, has violated the Civil Law Against Defamation and Insult and the Law on Relationships and Obligations.

"On 12.09.2024, the defendant Faton Peci, in the capacity of the Minister in the floor of the Assembly of Kosovo, responding to the MP, Mirlinda Tishukaj-Sadiku, defamed and insulted the personality of the plaintiff, Fehmi Geci, when he declared that "The project for inventory in agricultural lands in the amount of 1.5 million euros is one of the most abusive and flagrant projects that I have found in the Ministry of Agriculture., ....as a result of the actions that I have undertaken as a minister, in favor of the mechanisms of justice, currently the former Director of the Agricultural Institute is suspended and 433 other officials have been indicted along with him due to the flagrant abuse they have done with this project", says the lawsuit that Geci has already filed in the Basic Court in Pristina.

KosovaPress tried to contact the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Minister Peci, but was not available. In fact, not even his advisors have returned an answer regarding this lawsuit.

In the session of the Assembly of Kosovo, dated September 12, 2024, Minister Peci said that the project worth 1.4 million euros is one of the most abusive and flagrant projects.

From October last year, Fehmi Geci was temporarily suspended from his position as director of the Agricultural Institute of Kosovo.
