The organization "Animals Kosovo", in cooperation with partners from the Netherlands, has distributed food donations to stray dogs and cats, supporting activists who care for these animals. The donations include special food, which has been distributed to volunteers who care for the animals.
The distribution of food to volunteers caring for animals took place in the village of Komoran in Drenas. Volunteers from different regions of Kosovo participated.
Sadri Sopi, founder of the “Animals Kosovo” association, stressed that since the organization’s creation, they have been bringing aid to animals and the volunteers who care for them. He explained that the aid is distributed free of charge and focuses on the most urgent cases, especially for dogs outside residential areas, where the risk of survival is greater.
"For 1 year now, I have founded the association for the issue of homeless animals and cats in Kosovo "Animals Kosovo", with the abbreviation AniKos, and from that moment on we have started bringing aid for animals and for volunteers who help animals. All the aid we bring is donations, it is given free of charge to everyone, we are determined for the most urgent cases, especially volunteers who go to the mountains and fields, that is, outside the settlements, because dogs there are more at risk of dying. We are less oriented towards these feeders that are in cities and villages, most go outside the cities because they have a harder time surviving. We have brought food for cats and dogs. The last transport is more for cats", he said.
Arbër Vokërri, representative of the Ministry of Local Government Administration, said that this donation was mediated by AniKos, in cooperation with other partners from the Netherlands. He announced that the aid brought by AniKos, so far, has exceeded the amount of 1 million euros within a period of less than a year."This is the next donation mediated and organized by the AniKos association from the Netherlands, in cooperation with other Dutch partners, and with us as the Minister for Local Government Administration, which is charged with the responsibility of overseeing the implementation of the national strategy for dog management in Kosovo. The donations that AniKos has brought so far have exceeded the amount of 1 million, and this is for a period of less than 1 year," he said.
Meanwhile, Emine Haxhiu, an animal activist and beneficiary of this donation, called this help very important, emphasizing that no one had previously taken such an initiative to help stray animals, including cats, dogs and birds. She hopes that this initiative will motivate others to help more.
"I am an animal activist, we feed, shelter everything. This is a huge help, this organization. No one has ever taken the initiative to do this kind of organization before. For cats, dogs, birds, for any creature in need. It is a huge help, since others also take this step, for each of us it is the easiest job," she said.
Veterinarian Ilirjan Jusufi said that they have started sterilizing and castrating stray dogs and cats in collaboration with Sadri Sopi and his foundation, supported by the Netherlands. They emphasized that this is a necessary way to reduce the number of stray animals and their presence on the streets.
"We have started the sterilization and castration of homeless dogs and cats. Some colleagues have started, but we who are in Pristina have also started. Our clinic, called "Our Fauna", has started in collaboration with Sadri Sopi and his foundation, which is supported by the Netherlands, at a very reasonable price. We are enabling all animals, cats and dogs, to be sterilized and castrated. The goal is to reduce their population so that we do not have an increased presence on the streets", he said. These initiatives are of great importance in helping stray dogs and cats, especially making it easier for animal volunteers who passionately care for animals.
