Fifteen people in South Korea were injured, two of them seriously, after two fighter jets mistakenly dropped eight bombs on a civilian area during a military exercise with live ammunition.

The incident occurred in the city of Pocheon, near the border with North Korea. The South Korean Air Force apologized and promised compensation for those affected. Two people suffered fractures in their necks and shoulders, while a 60-year-old man was injured by shrapnel from the bomb.

The error occurred due to incorrect coordinates entered by the pilot of one of the aircraft. It is not yet clear why the other aircraft dropped the bombs. Live ammunition exercises have been suspended, reports with the BBC.

Several houses and a church were damaged. Authorities evacuated residents, but no unexploded bombs were found. The incident occurred during a joint exercise with the United States, as part of military maneuvers planned for March 10-20, according to the Associated Press. KosovaPress.
