European leaders have expressed their support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after his tense meeting with US President Donald Trump. KosovaPress.
The meeting held at the White House ended ahead of schedule and without the signing of the minerals agreement, while it was reported that US President Donald Trump had expelled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which Trump himself chose not to speak about in front of reporters.
This, as reported by world media, came after Trump's accusations that Zelensky is not grateful for aid from the United States of America, reports KosovaPress.
The European Union's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said in a statement that "it is clear that the free world needs a new leader."
French President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Antonio Costa were among the first people Zelensky spoke to after his heated meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House, according to a Ukrainian source, CNN reports. Zelensky also received support from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. "A spokesman said he spoke to both Trump and Zelensky today. 'He maintains his unwavering support for Ukraine and is playing his part in finding a way forward towards a lasting peace, based on sovereignty and security for Ukraine,'" the spokesman was quoted as saying, CNN reports. A summit where the US and the EU would discuss the war in Ukraine was called for by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. According to foreign media, Meloni has said that the lack of unity makes the West weaker.
That Ukraine is not alone, said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
"Ukraine is not alone," she said. "Germany, together with our European allies, stands united alongside Ukraine - and against Russian aggression. Ukraine can count on unwavering support from Germany, Europe and beyond. Their defense of democracy and their quest for peace and security is ours," she said, according to the report. "The truth is simple. Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia is the aggressor. Ukraine defends its freedom – and ours. We stand with Ukraine," Moldovan President Maia Sandu said.
Zelensky also received support from Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
While Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that the only obstacle to peace is Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's decision to continue his war of aggression.
"Estonia's support for Ukraine remains unwavering. It is time for Europe to step up. We do not need to wait for something else to happen; Europe has sufficient resources, including frozen Russian assets, to enable Ukraine to continue fighting," he said, KosovaPress reports.Read also:
