The Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry has awaited with great concern the announcement by the Energy Regulatory Office of a 15% increase in electricity prices.
This decision is considered to have been made without proper consultation with businesses and without a proper analysis of the consequences that this increase could bring to local producers.
The repeated increase of 15% is happening just two years after such an increase was made by ERO and its consequences continue to be present in businesses, the reaction states.
Such a price increase makes the private sector in Kosovo more disadvantaged against competition from abroad and this may be followed by other consequences, such as a decrease in production and the number of workers.
The Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) has proposed that the price of electricity increase by 15 percent starting in April.ERO's proposal comes after weeks ago, KOSTT, KEDS and KESCO requested an increase in electricity tariffs due to the import of electricity.
ERO has published a consultative report on maximum allowed revenues, where it is proposed to increase the price of electricity, reports KosovaPress.
ERO invites regulated undertakings, consumers and all other interested parties to review the data and views included in the consultation report and to submit their comments and suggestions by 28 March 2025.
As a reminder, ERO annually reviews and sets electricity tariffs, which are announced every April 1 and are valid until March 31. In 2024, ERO reduced the price for commercial and industrial customers by three percent, but in 2023 it increased tariffs by 15 percent for all categories of customers.
