The death toll from the floods in Spain has risen to 158, with the vast majority, 155, recorded in Valencia, the regional emergency coordination center on Platform X announced.
"The process of collecting and identifying the victims continues," the statement says.
Earlier, Spain's state news agency EFE reported that the death toll was 140.
There is still the possibility that more victims will be found as an unknown number of people are still missing.
"Unfortunately, there are dead people in some vehicles," said Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente.
Local authorities have issued warnings about false information circulating online, including claims about the safety of drinking water in Valencia
The army has been called in to help flood-affected areas in Valencia from tomorrow morning, according to the regional president.
"I have just requested the involvement of the army and available land, sea and air forces to increase logistical tasks and distribution of aid to the population," he said in a post on X.
More than 1 soldiers from Spain's emergency rescue units have already joined regional and local emergency workers in the search for bodies and survivors. The Minister of Defense said that only the soldiers until last night have taken out 22 bodies and saved 110 people.
The game between Valencia and Real Madrid has been postponed as expected, while the club focuses its efforts on flood relief. A new date and time has not yet been set. Meanwhile, the "Mestalla" stadium became a place to help the victims.
Record amounts of rainfall were not only recorded in mainland Spain. Earlier in the week, October records were broken in the Balearic Islands, where 174 millimeters of rain fell on Monday.
It is expected that another 120 millimeters of rain could fall on the islands in just a few hours, prompting the Spanish Meteorological Service to issue an orange warning for rain and storms in Mallorca and Menorca on Friday and Saturday.
Another area that could be affected by strong storms, with an orange warning, is south-west Spain, around Cadiz.
