Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her cabinet have won an important victory regarding the issue of immigrants, which are also related to the camps built in Albania.
The Court of Cassation, with a recent decision, clarifies that it is up to the Italian government to evaluate the countries from which immigrants come as safe or not. This is a confirmation of the decision taken on 19 December 2024, which clarified the role of the ordinary judge in relation to the determination of safe places of origin, underlining the limit of his powers.
Meloni, a few days ago, firmly stated that in January the operations with asylum seekers towards Shengjin and Gjadri will resume, stressing that the Italian-Albanian model will work.
Pending further clarifications from the EU Court of Justice, Italian judges are now required to balance decisions and respect national rules with European principles, avoiding interpretations that may conflict with international directives./TopChannel/
