A Bulgarian and a Romanian got a second chance at life after the family of a deceased 68-year-old woman made the noble decision to donate her organs.

The donor situation was carried out by a team from the Stefan Cherkezov Hospital in Veliko Tarnovo, the Executive Agency for Medical Supervision announced today.

A team from the Urology Clinic at the Aleksandrovska University Hospital in Sofia performed a kidney transplant on a 60-year-old man. For medical reasons, the second kidney was not transplanted, BTA reports.

As part of Bulgaria's agreement with Romania, a 33-year-old man was given a new chance at life after undergoing a liver transplant, the Medical Supervision Agency announced.

According to information from hospitals, the patients are in stable condition and are under medical observation in intensive care units.

In early March, the first heart transplant for 2025 was performed at Sofia's St. Catherine University Hospital, after a Bulgarian patient received a heart from Romania, the Health Ministry's press center reported earlier. The donor was a 31-year-old Romanian citizen and the organ was provided under the cooperation agreement between Bulgaria and Romania.

On February 25, three people received a second chance at life after the family of a 44-year-old woman made the selfless decision to donate her organs, according to the Executive Agency for Medical Supervision. The donor procedure was carried out by a team from the Saint Marina University Hospital in Varna, reports KosovaPress.
