Brazilian soccer legend Romario has returned from retirement at the age of 58 to play for Brazilian side America Football Club in Rio de Janeiro.
Romario has confirmed he will return to professional football more than 15 years after hanging up his boots in 2009. Romario had a successful playing career, winning the World Cup in 1994 and playing for Dutch side PSV and giants La Liga Barcelona among other clubs.
He is now registered as a player for the American Football Club, where he serves as president and also where his son, Romarinho, plays football. He has made it clear that playing with his son and for his favorite team is his main motivation. The Brazilian legend will earn a minimum salary in the club, but will return it to America as a donation, reports "Marca", forwarded by KosovaPress.
"I will not compete in the championship, but I will play a few matches for the team of the heart and make another dream come true, playing alongside my son. What do you think?" Romario wrote on Instagram.
American Soccer currently plays in the second division of Brazil's Campeonato Carioca and is preparing for the start of a new season starting on May 18. It remains to be seen when Romario will make his debut for his new club.
