More than 30 people have died in a bus accident on a mountain road in Bolivia, police have announced.

The driver likely lost control of the vehicle, causing the bus to fall 800 feet into a ravine in southwestern Yocalla County.

Fourteen people were injured, including four children, a local hospital official said in a video statement.

The accident occurred on the road between the cities of Potosí and Oruro. Local television station Unitel reported that some of the injured were in critical condition.

It is the deadliest traffic accident in Bolivia this year. Fatal accidents are common on Bolivia's dangerous roads, especially in mountainous areas. Last month, 19 people died when another bus veered off the road near Potosí. According to Bolivian government data, an average of 1.400 people die in traffic accidents each year in the country of about 12 million people.
