I have the impression that Trump's entry into the White House, after a while, will disappoint those who are waiting for him in Serbia with so much desire. Trump is a man of monologues and will not tolerate a Serbian "monologue president", foreign policy analyst Boshko Jakšić says in an interview for Nova.

He also talks about the sanctions against NIS, but also about the recent actions of the Serbian ambassador to Croatia, Jelena Milić, who left the Christmas party.

"The ambassador must reward the position given to her by magic", says Jakshiq.

America, however, imposed sanctions on NIS, even though the public was quite skeptical of these announcements by Serbian President Aleksandar Vuçiq. Although this measure is directed against Russia, what does it mean concretely for Serbia?

The great political game in the energy sphere is coming to an end. The Americans have activated the toughest package of sanctions ever against Russia's oil and gas industry in a bid to facilitate a peace deal for Ukraine. Western Europeans are no longer buying Russian gas, and Serbia is left to step out of the gray area and decide which side to take. In this context, secondary sanctions against NIS are expected. The lucrative profits that Gazprom extracted from Serbia undoubtedly helped to some extent to finance Russian aggression. Americans have now said ENOUGH! They are followed by the British and most EU members.

Is this another form of pressure on the (Serbian) government to impose sanctions on Moscow?

This is not an attack on Serbia and its economy, but an attack on Serbian foreign policy. Since the start of the invasion of Ukraine almost three years ago, the West has tried to create a united front against the authorities in the Kremlin. Serbia is constantly reminded to harmonize its foreign policy with the EU, and under pressure, it cancels contracts for the purchase of weapons from Russia. There is no more room for balance.

By putting pressure on a company that is majority owned by Russia, in which the Serbian side has not been asked anything, the Americans should no longer insist that Serbia impose sanctions on Russia. Belgrade has been given the argument that separation from Moscow is in Serbia's interest. Aleksandar Vuçiq has been put in a position to defend not the "historic friendship" with Moscow, but the energy security and economy of "beloved Serbia".

The deadline for the decision is short, until February 25, and the consequences are already here: the gas is not coming from Azerbaijan. There are still many uncertainties. Is Tadić's gift to the Russians turning into an American gift to Vuçiqin? Will Serbia buy the controlling shares of the Russians and thus regain the strategic monopoly that was given up for nothing? Will he make an investment move immeasurably more important than EXPO27? Will NIS be nationalized? The US is seeking a complete divestment of Russian interests from NIS, but will Putin approve the sale? How much compensation will he seek? Vuçiq announces a conversation.

Almost at the same time, the American Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Verma, is coming to Belgrade, and during his visit, the strategic dialogue between Serbia and America will be initiated. How do you see the beginning of this dialogue, which includes a large number of topics, practically at the end of the term of the Biden administration?

Ambassador Christopher Hill is preparing a farewell reception for this week. Diplomat Verma is likely to be the last senior official of the outgoing administration to be expected. The talks within the framework of the strategic dialogue are confirmation of the continuity that America encourages with countries of the caliber of Serbia. That should be Trump's legacy, and we'll just have to see how things play out.

Will something change in America's relations with Serbia with the arrival of Donald Trump as President of the USA?

I have the impression that Trump's entry into the White House, after a while, will disappoint those who are waiting for him here with so much desire. Trump is a man of monologues and will not tolerate a Serbian "monologue president". He offers a stronger partnership, but on his own terms. What will the authorities in Belgrade do when they receive such a message: the US wants friendship with Serbia, is ready to invest and help Serbia on its way to the EU, but stay away from those Chinese. They are my biggest problem.

The Danish diplomat Peter Sorensen and the former Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs have been nominated for the post of the EU envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Pekka Havisto. Who, according to you, is closer to victory and what would be their attitude towards Serbia?

Rational Scandinavians are very work-oriented and I don't believe there will be room for emotional ties in their mediation, as with Miroslav Lajçak, who comes from Slovakia, a country that has not recognized Kosovo's independence. After an era of sterile lethargy, I expect more dynamism. It would be important that Belgrade does not repeat the mistake it often makes - cutting them with a knife. Let's remember, this was the case with Marti Ahtisaar, and this is also the case today with the European Parliament's rapporteur for Serbia, Tonino Picula. Premature and emotionally charged decisions in diplomacy are never good.

Former Slovenian president Borut Pahor withdrew at the last moment from this candidacy, explaining that this region was becoming a sphere of American influence and that under such circumstances he could not contribute much to this problem. Do you think America will become more actively involved in local politics?

Americans have been zigzagging for the past two or three decades. They were going to leave the Western Balkans to the Europeans, and when they realized that there was no progress in Kosovo or Bosnia and Herzegovina, they lost patience and intensified their commitment. I think we are now in this final phase.

How do you comment on the actions of the Serbian ambassador to Croatia, Jelena Milic, who demonstratively left the SNV Christmas reception? The reason was a letter from the prize winner, who said that the students in Serbia had shown us "how to fly and how to shine".

The ambassador must reward the position magically granted to her. She stood up against the "blatant attack" on Serbia by the two winners of the "Svetozar Pavičević" award of the Serbian People's Council. The Turk is worse than the Turk. Fortunately, shame falls on him and on those he flatters. The majority of Serbia shows every day what it thinks about its youth.

In the end, what is your position on the student protests in Serbia?

I am really fascinated by the silence and the noise and I only hope that the second and third invitations join in, proving that there can be no dilemma in choosing between the government and your children. I am happy that we have welcomed this generation that wants to normalize and honor Serbia through demands for truth and justice. I am also proud of the young people of the region who are showing solidarity. They don't want to feel alone and torn apart. They refuse to support the walls of separation maintained by politicians obsessed with the demons of nationalism.
