US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump met today at the White House for transition talks.

"Congratulations and I look forward to having a smooth transition," Biden told Trump, who won a second non-consecutive term in the White House on Nov. 5.

Trump thanked Biden and said politics is "tough and in many cases it's not a very beautiful world, but it's a beautiful world today and I appreciate it very much."

The Republican Party won a majority in the election, taking control of the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House.

Trump won the election with 312 electoral votes, surpassing the threshold of 270 against his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Before meeting with Biden, Trump met with Republicans on Capitol Hill.

"Isn't it nice to win? It's nice to win. It's always nice to win," Trump told Republicans. /AA
