Kosovo has marked a historic step in the automotive industry with the opening of the largest center of the Swedish manufacturer Volvo in the Balkans by Auto Mita, an event that is not only an achievement for the company, but also for the country. This big investment, which puts Kosovo on Volvo's global map, will also help for a cleaner environment for the benefit of the citizens.
With a grand ceremony, Auto Mita has presented the EX90-Volvo model, which has been rated as one of the best inventions of the year.
The director of this car showroom, Zgjim Mita, has emphasized that Volvo has taken an approach to be a pioneer of car electrification and a protector of the environment.
"Like every young person, I wanted Volvo, I dreamed of Volvo and I had the intention to come here. 25 years ago, I was 11 years old, Kosovo has completed the period of war, seeing a Volvo on the road was an achievement, and today to inaugurate the largest Volvo center in the region shows the capacities that we Kosovars have - we do not know inferiority. In this way, we are very proud to have put Kosovo on the fantastic map of Volvo globally...It started four years ago (negotiations, expectations of Volvo management), it has lasted two years...Volvo has taken a pioneering approach of the electrification of cars, to protect the environment, because it prioritizes the good of humanity. I think that in cooperation with the Minister of MINT there are developments for electrification to happen in Kosovo, so the new generation of electrified cars or electric kits will be the next challenge to bring here. What we have done, we have installed five electric chargers free of charge for all Volvo owners", said Mita.
Also present at this event was the Minister of Industry, Enterprise and Trade, Rozeta Hajdari, who said that the presence of the Volvo brand strengthens Kosovo's international ties.
"Hearty congratulations for putting Kosovo on Volvo's international map, this is to admire your work... As Kosovo, we need more support for the protection of the environment, but first for the safety of the citizen. The opening of this modern show-room as a symbol of innovation and quality and our common goals, to increase the quality of products and services for our citizens, with increased safety and best environmentally friendly practices thus contributing to the development of stable socio-economic in our country...(This event) It is an important step for the country towards a cleaner and more stable future for Kosovo, but also more safety for drivers, but also for our citizens.. .Presence of the Volvo brand strengthens Kosovo's international ties and shows that our country is an increasingly important actor in the global arena of investments and innovation", said Hajdari.
The Swedish ambassador in Pristina, Jonas Westerlund, has assessed the arrival of Volvo in Kosovo as an important day not only for Auto Mita and Volvo, but also for Sweden.
"This is an important day, not only for Auto Mita, not only for Volvo, but also for Sweden... Swedes are quite passionate about Volvo and the Volvo brand. It is not only for nostalgic reasons, but also because it represents Sweden and in particular it represents safety and innovation... When it comes to safety, Volvo has been at the forefront of the car industry since its inception in 1927. Volvo invented the seat belt, which all car manufacturers use today. They also formed a traffic research team in 1970, studying traffic accidents to prevent accidents before they happen... So in Swedish society, the Volvo car brand is extremely important for safety and innovation, and, you you know, for innovation we always compete with Switzerland, which will receive the annual award or which will be the most creative and innovative country in the world", he said.
Volvo's representative, Boris Mayer, expressed confidence that together with the Auto Mita team, they will represent Volvo's values in Kosovo.
"We are for the power of cooperation and I am sure that together with the Auto Mita team we will represent Volvo's goals and values in Kosovo. Since 1927 for the past 97 years, almost 100 years, we as Volvo have made the transition by setting the safety standards in the car industry... It is no coincidence that in Time magazine, the EX90 was rated as one of the best inventions of year, with the driver's understanding system. So the car can understand from facial recognition if the driver has a problem, if he fell asleep, if he is sick or if he is experiencing some health problem. In that case, the car automatically pulls back, takes control from the driver, and then moves without causing any accidents or traffic damage and starts giving signals and warnings... In 2025, which is just two months from now, Volvo will have 15 percent of total car sales of electrified cars, meaning either fully electric or hybrid, and by 2030, we will continue to be a leader in electrification, for a greener planet." he expressed.
