The G7 is poised to impose new sanctions on Iran following its attack on Israel last weekend, the final communique of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Capri said on Friday. "We demand that Iran and its affiliated groups cease their attacks," the statement said. "We will hold the Iranian government accountable for its harmful and destabilizing actions and stand ready to take sanctions or other measures now and in response to further destabilizing initiatives."
A paragraph devoted to the war in Ukraine said that "if Iran continues to supply ballistic missiles or related technologies to Russia, we stand ready to respond in a swift and coordinated manner, including significant new measures." The communique called on all parties involved to seek de-escalation. "In light of the news of the April 19 raids, we call on all parties to work to prevent further escalation," the statement said.
