The American presence through NATO's KFOR peacekeeping mission is extremely important for stability and peace in Kosovo.
This was stated by Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anusic during a meeting with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy, David Baker, today in Munich.
Anusic, who is attending the 61st Munich Security Conference together with the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Tihomir Kundid, met on the sidelines with Baker, as well as Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci, announces the Croatian Ministry of Defense.
In a conversation with Baker, Anusic emphasized that the key to security in Southeast Europe is Kosovo and said that the American presence through NATO's KFOR operation is extremely important for the stability and peace of Kosovo.
He also said that Croatia is strongly committed to equipping and modernizing the Croatian Army and, together with its ally the United States, is equipping its armed forces with Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, Black Hawks and the HIMARS missile system.Anusic's meeting with Kosovo officials discussed the security situation in Kosovo and Southeast Europe.
Croatia strongly supports the path of the Republic of Kosovo towards NATO and the EU, and with the engagement of the Croatian Army contingent in NATO's KFOR operation, we are actively contributing to the peace and stability of Kosovo, said Anusic.
In the context of announcing a new American policy towards Europe, support for peace in Kosovo is more important than ever, he said.
Anusic stressed the importance of greater engagement by official Pristina in protecting the Croatian community in Kosovo, their rights, survival and national identity.
