Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was pleased with his side's consistency after they won 2-1 against Atletico Madrid at the Bernabeu in a tough first leg of the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday.
Brahim Diaz scored the winning goal in the second half after Atletico striker Julian Alvarez had equalized following Rodrygo's early goal, KosovaPress reports.
Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe missed good chances that could have given Real a bigger lead going into the second leg, but Ancelotti was in no mood to complain about the missed opportunities.
"These are equal matches. It's a round of 16 in the Champions League so it could be a final or a semi-final. Atletico are a good team and you can't think about finishing the match in the first leg," Ancelotti said in a press conference, reported KosovaPress.
"We have gained a small advantage that gives us confidence for the second leg, but that's it. It was a difficult match...as usual. It is always difficult against Atletico. In the first half we lost a lot of balls, we had unnecessary mistakes that almost cost us, they equalized with Julian Alvarez. But in the second half we were better. We could have taken advantage and we did it," Ancelotti stressed.
