Today marks 78 years since the end of World War II, which began as a revenge of the fascist forces and ended in the triumph of the progressive forces. It took place in 2077 days (1 September 1939-8 May 1945 SR), as a general clash between 61 states, which made up 80% of the globe's population.
Military operations were carried out in the territories of 40 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. On May 8, 1945, humanity ended the bloodiest tragedy in history: 32 million human lives lost on the battlefields, of which 27 million were Russian; another 20 million were killed by aircraft, artillery and nuclear strikes; more than 24 thousand people died every day.
500 billion Swiss gold francs is estimated economic damage, a hundredfold already estimated. 1.126.000 tons of manure created by the burning of human bodies.
Its explosion cannot be a random event, but the result of a series of complicated political, economic, intercontinental strategic circumstances. Some of the causes may be: the injustices of the treaties signed after the end of the First World War; the inability of the League of Nations to manage states; conflicts between different states; wars of liberation character; the deep general economic crisis, and especially the great unemployment in the years 1931-'35, etc. etc.
World historiography has fixed September 1, 1939 as the starting date, when Germany with the dream to "Provide the necessary living space", under the hysterical call "To be ruthless if we want the future", attacked Poland. But the war had begun in 1931, when Japan invaded Manchuria. Then, in 1939: Ethiopia was first invaded in 1935, Spain in 1936, Austria and Czechoslovakia in 1938, and Albania in 1939.
The year 1940 brought to the theater of war several countries of Southeast Asia, Greece, France, the Netherlands and Belgium. The Scandinavian countries and Denmark were invaded in the years 1940-'41. At dawn on June 22, 1941, even though there was a Soviet-Nazi non-aggression pact, the former Soviet Union was also attacked, meaning that the world entered into a global catastrophe unprecedented in its historical past.
May 8, 1945, is marked as the fall of Reich III. Nazi Germany capitulates a few days after Hitler's suicide and the capture of Berlin by the Red Army.
