Today marks the 72nd anniversary of the birth of Jashar Salihu, the first diplomatic representative of the Provisional Government of Kosovo in Switzerland and former chairman of the Board of Directors of the "Homeland Calls" Fund.
Jashar Salihu was born in the village of Batushë on February 10, 1953 and died on December 16, 2000, at the cantonal hospital in Aarau, Switzerland.
He completed his primary education in Molliq and secondary education in Gjakova. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Prishtina, where he studied English.
Since the 70s, Jashar Salihu was a member of the National Liberation Movement of Kosovo and the Albanian vices in Yugoslavia.
Respectively, he was among the most active members of the illegal groups of that time who operated within the illegal organization called the Committee for Deçan, within the movement led by the ideologue, the most prominent activity of the national issue, Jusuf Gërvalla.Together with his brother Hajdari, they were distinguished for their political courage in openly opposing the positions and actions led by former communist centers organized through municipal committees, which conflicted with the goals and ideals of the genuine national movement for liberation from Slavic occupations.
Years later, the Salihu brothers worked as professors at the "Vëllezërit Frashëri" high school - gymnasium in Deçan.
On May 1, 1990, he will lead the rally at Verrat e Llukës, where there were more than 500 thousand people present from all Albanian regions, where 106 reconciliations would be achieved; 62 bloodsheds, 25 wounds and 19 conflicts.
At the end of this year, they arrest him and torture him terribly, barbarically. But nothing ends there; his pursuit will continue even further, at every step, until they force him to take the path of exile.
His political activity, within the former People's Movement of Kosovo, will only mark a rise and will take on new, multiple dimensions. Having previously been in its highest management hierarchy, with his initiative in 1993, the "Vendlindja krets" Fund will be formed, a fund which from the beginning to the end has been in function of the formation of the self-financing of the liberation war of the Liberation Army of Kosovo.Since this year, that is, since the time of its foundation, Jashar Salihu has been the chairman of the Council for the Administration of the "Vendlindja zruchet" Fund.
In sensitizing Western opinion to the truth about Kosovo's just struggle against the criminal forces of Slobodan Milosevic, Jashari's role is irreplaceable, and, consequently, it was not by chance that he was proving himself within the KLA Political Directorate. He was a member of the Foreign Relations Group, and later he would be the first diplomatic representative of the Provisional Government of Kosovo in Switzerland.
"The Albanians of Kosovo are Europeans and have no connection with Islamic countries. They are determined to fight to the end," Jashar Salihu declared to the American newspaper "The Christian Science Monitor" on April 16, 1998, thus defending and spreading the truth about the Albanians and the Western civilizational values of the KLA war, while simultaneously denying the anti-Albanian propaganda of the Milosevic regime and its satellites.
