Kosovo today commemorates the 26rd anniversary of the Recak massacre, where over 45 innocent Albanian civilians were killed. The former head of the OSCE monitoring mission in Kosovo, Ambassador William Walker, had described the Recak massacre as a crime against humanity.

On January 15, 1999, 45 unarmed Albanians were barbarically killed and massacred in the village of Recak.

In the early morning hours of January 15, Recaku woke up surrounded. According to witnesses, around 6:30, Serbian forces with heavy artillery started bombing the village. After the bombing stopped, Serbian forces entered the village and started raiding.

The Recak massacre terrified the world and awakened the conscience of world diplomacy by mobilizing for Kosovo. The horrors caused in the village of Recak brought to the attention of the entire civilized world and revealed the truth about the genocidal plan of the former criminal Slobodan Milosevic.

After Recak, the Kosovo issue will be at an international conference in Rambouillet and Paris, the failure of which would affect NATO intervention against Serbian military forces, their departure from Kosovo and the establishment of an international administration in Kosovo. writes KosovaPress.

Recaku at that time had taken place in the media and chancelleries of the most influential countries in the world. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright had heard the news and woke up anxious about what the next hours would bring to Kosovo.

Meanwhile, the head of the OSCE mission, William Walker, had gone to the crime scene very quickly and pointed his finger from the massacre valley, defining the crime in three words: crime against humanity.

After the Recak massacre, 48-hour fighting resumed between the KLA and Serbian forces for the bodies. Serbia wanted to eradicate the traces of the crime, but this attempt failed. The world saw crime.

For the first time, the missionaries and diplomats of the world were terrified by the horrifying scenes and barbaric massacres committed by the Serbian forces on the Albanian civilian population.

While the year 2024 marks the first anniversary of the arrest of two people, Bedri Shabani and Muharrem Qerimi, suspected of collaborating with the Serbian BIA.

KosovaPress had learned that their arrest was made possible after a tip-off from the Kosovo Intelligence Agency.

A day after their arrest Kosovo Police had raided the properties of two suspects where various documents, computers, phones, USBs, DVRs, tapes, weapons and ammunition, military masks and gas masks were found and seized as material evidence.

On the occasion of the day of remembrance and honoring the victims of the Recak massacre, January 15, 2025 is declared a holiday in the Municipality of Shtime.
