Today we remember the martyrs of the Skenderaj neighborhoods who fell on March 20, 1999.
The former mayor of Skenderaj, Bekim Jashari, wrote at the time, after the withdrawal of international observers from the OSCE mission, that Serbian criminals dressed in white clothes and black masks had begun robbing and mistreating citizens in Skenderaj, then separating the men from the women, whom they had taken to the pine forests and executed there, reports KosovaPress.
"Some of them were killed at home, and others were arrested. Their fall on the altar of Freedom is proof of the genocide committed by the Serbian state in Kosovo. Glory to those who fell for the Freedom of Kosovo," he wrote.
Eight Albanians were taken from their homes that day by Serbian forces and killed in a place known as Te Pishat.
