On December 12, 2010, the first parliamentary elections were held two years after the declaration of Kosovo's independence in February 2008.

According to the Central Electoral Commission, over 1.6 million citizens had the right to vote in these elections, of which 73.288 were young voters.

The elections were held in a total of 746 voting centers with 2 polling stations.

For these elections, 29 political entities with 1.265 candidates for deputies were certified and they were monitored by 32.021 observers, of which 26 thousand 59 from political parties, 493 from international organizations, 351 from embassies and 5 thousand 108 from non-governmental organizations.

The elections were held after the then Speaker of Parliament Jakup Krasniqi had announced on November 2 the dissolution of the legislature, after the vote in the Assembly of the motion of no confidence in the Government led by Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.

The motion of no confidence was initiated by the New Kosovo Alliance (AKR), after the institutional crisis as a result of the withdrawal of the Democratic League of Kosovo from the government coalition with the PDK and the resignation of Fatmir Sejdi from the post of president.

PDK won the December 12 elections. LDK was ranked second. The Vetëvendosje movement, which participated for the first time, was ranked third, followed by AAK and AKR.
