The Mayor of Mitrovica, Avni Kastrati said that he has had regular contacts with representatives of KFOR, EULEX and Kosova Police, in order to undertake additional measures to prevent the incidents, especially in the localities with mixed population. He greeted the engagement of KFOR and citizens’ behavior in contributing for calming down the situation.
Kastrati informed that in a meeting with the representatives of EULEX, where was reviewed the security situation in the municipality, they pledged that they will do everything together with other security structures, to engage on keeping peace and security in the municipality, especially in the locations where it is jeopardized by recent incidents.
The director for protection and rescue in Mitrovica, Behxhet Bala said that the last week in Mitrovica was calm, thanks to the awareness of citizens and additional presence of KFOR in northern neighborhoods of the city.
Nysret Mehmeti, from the regional police of Kosova, said that the situation is calm thanks to the additional presence of KFOR, EULEX and Kosova Police in all northern neighborhoods. He mentioned the case of an incident in a church institution in north of the city, where shootouts happened between rival groups, supporters of different groups of Serb Orthodox Church.
