On Wednesday, the EU Special Representative in Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar, during his stay in Mitrovica, was hosted by the Mayor Avni Kastrati, with whom he discussed about the general situation and current developments in the municipality, with special emphasis for the north, and for opportunities for cooperation between communities, especially, between Albanians and Serbs.
Speaking about the overall situation in the municipality, the mayor Kastrati, said that it currently is quiet with a tendency for further relaxation, which also indicates the fact that elections organized by the OSCE in the north, for the president and parliament of Serbia, have passed without any incident.
He said that the citizens of Mitrovica, regardless of their ethnicity, are politically mature and think positively about their future.
According to Kastrati, the main problem in Mitrovica remains the inability for the free movement and circulation in the northern part, as a consequence of the Serbian illegal structures, then the reconstruction of Albanian houses destroyed during the war, etc.
"The high unemployment and collected social-economic problems, due to circumstances in which the city is since the war ended, burden the situation too, said Mayor Kastrati.
He asked the Special Representative of the EU to get committed to finding opportunities for the realization of some other important projects that offer prospects for all citizens of the municipality, regardless of their ethnicity.
Special Representative of the EU, Samuel Zbogar, after he praised the work done so far, has said that the International Community and he personally, are concerned that the situation in Mitrovica to continuously get stabilized and that all problems to be resolved through discussion and understanding. / A.
