Smoking, the second cause of death in the world

Although Kosovo has no exact figures about smoking, the smoking rate was evaluated to be high enough.

According to the UNICEF representatives, Laura Fragiacomo, in Kosovo is evaluated to be about 700 thousand smokers, while 20 percent of them are pregnant women. However disturbing fact remains that 50 percent of children in Kosovo, are exposed to passive smoking.

"We have two figures for Kosovo that arouse a lot of great concern. Is the presence of smoking among pregnant women, indicating that 20 percent of them are smokers and 50 percent of children in Kosovo are exposed to passive

smoking. We believe that the children rights for appropriate development are being violated in Kosovo due to the high level of smoking, "she said.

In this activity, it was evaluated that the new law on health, which would prevent 100 percent smoking in public spaces, will improve the public health, but it was requested unanimously that this law is fully to be implemented and not to remain only on paper.

Minister of Health, Ferid Agani, talking about the new draft for smoking, said that this law will mark a step against this evil phenomenon, which is damaging public health.
