Gjilan obtains 40 percent of bread from their fields

Municipality of Gjilan through a press release announced that "Municipal Commission for harvesting and threshing has observed closely the entire campaign and has not faced any significant problem."

"There were harvested about 2300 ha of white grains, while the average yield has been about 4000 kg / ha. This yield is satisfactory, especially when we take into account the unfavorable conditions that were present during the time when wheat was planted and drought with extreme temperatures that was present during the entire June ".

Despite unfavorable conditions it is believed that yield was greatly influenced by qualitative seed and artificial fertilizer, which were provided to majority of farmers for free from the directorate for agriculture, and subsidies that are given by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Further in the statement is said, if the entire quantity of harvested wheat would be used for human consumption we can say that the municipality of Gjilan, from their fields, this year has met 40% of food needs.

From the data by directorate for agriculture in Gjilan was stated that each year are increasing land surfaces that are planted.
