BSPK: Government should prevent increase of electricity price

The head of BSPK, Haxhi Arifi said in a press conference that he will request from the prime minister Hashim Thaçi not to allow increase of electricity price, otherwise they will call on citizens to boycott payment of electricity price.

“We are insisting to carry out through dialogue, as the Government can do it, respectively the persons who are responsible. However, if not, then we are reviewing another thing. Perhaps one day we will call on citizens to boycott the payment until they realize that it is unaffordable,” Arifi said.

He said that the increase of electricity price results with increase of food items and in this period it is unaffordable for the poor citizens of the country. According to him, this increase of electricity price harms the people of Kosova, especially those who do not work, and who live as beggars. He said that they will request from the prime minister to review it in his cabinet and to prevent this increase in the current situation of citizens.

“This increase of 9% should not happen as in this situation of citizens, it is a heavy burden for them. Considering all problems, this will be another burden, which should concern every institution, especially those who take such decisions in these moments, with unemployment level over 50%, extreme poverty over 18%, and this is unacceptable to happen in this period. Thus, I have requested a meeting and I will request again with the prime minister for the Government not to allow this increase of 9%,” Arifi said.
