The institution of Ombudsman has investigated the manner of management of these landfills from KLMC has attracted the attention of the relevant institutions and public opinion regarding the escalation of problems in their administration. The situation was considerably worsened since the early hours of July 17 2012, landfills managed by KLMC are fully closed.
Taking into account the situation created by the mismanagement of waste and their impact on environmental pollution, risks of damages, fire and explosions, and more direct risk to life and health of citizens. The Ombudsman considers irresponsible the behaviors of the competent authorities of local and central level.
"Taking into account the failure of the mechanisms responsible in fulfilling their legal obligations for waste management and treatment, and in overcoming this situation, the Ombudsman required the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning and the Ministry of Economic Development, to take immediate actions to open the landfills, preventing and correcting the current situation ", is said in a press release from the office of the Ombudsman. Also, the Ombudsman requires the prosecution and the court to take the legal responsibility on all individuals and responsible institutions which have brought this situation.
